Starbucks 5th Annual Global Month of Service, Empowering Youth towards Work Excellence

JAKARTA; 23 April, 2015 – Starbucks partners and customers are coming together today for Starbucks fifth annual Global Month of Service (GMOS) with a shared goal to help youth to connect with meaningful economic or educational opportunities. Global Month of Service is an annual initiative when Starbucks invites partners (employees) and customers join together in community service projects around the world in the month of April.

Working side by side with Prestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI), a part of Junior Achievement Worldwide, onehundred Starbucks partners and customers will volunteer to coach youth about the importance of team work in five different vocational high schools (Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Atas) across Jakarta. Prestasi Junior Indonesia is a non-profit organization which aims to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a
global economy.
“This year, we will focus our GMOS efforts on collaborations with non-profit organizations that help Opportunity Youth to get the skills and knowledge they need to secure jobs,” said Anthony Cottan, chief operating officer, Starbucks Indonesia. Today, one hundred partners (employee) volunteered in 5 SMKN across Jakarta to share their experience and knowledge to students about team work through GRPI – G (Goals) R (Roles and Responsibility) P (Process) and I (Interpersonal Relationship) model. The participating
schools are; SMKN 30, SMKN 57, SMKN 33, SMKN 60, and SMKN 38.

Robert Gardiner, director, Prestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI) also added, “Ensuring young Indonesians are well prepared for entry into the workforce is of great importance. The involvement of enthusiastic volunteers from Starbucks Indonesia in improving youth’s understanding of the world of work is an important step in enabling the young to achieve a sustainable livelihood.”

The initiative is an important step in Starbucks Indonesia ongoing commitment to use its scale to encourage greater understanding, particularly in empowering youth towards work excellence in Indonesia.
